MICHAEL SALAS

Several years of experience helping clients and their families overcome addictions, problems with anxiety, depression, and family changes. I utilize a person-centered, compassionate approach, along with some cognitive-behavioral techniques to help clients challenge their own thinking and overcome problems in their lives. Through this process, I am able to help people learn to handle difficult situations, but also how to prevent them from repeating again.

Currently, I am a therapist in Dallas who owns Vantage Point Counseling Services. I provide therapy to individuals and couples. For individuals, I help them understand the basis of their feelings, and teach them to look inward for the answers that they are searching for. I provide a non-judgmental atmosphere for clients, but also gently confront client's ambivalence and contradicting beliefs.

I am now proudly volunteering at the Transgender Health Night at the Nelson-Tebedo Resource Center of Dallas. Here I help individuals deal with fear, anger, gender expression, and transitioning itself. I work to help these clients deal with discrimination through advocating for themselves, but without anger and depression.

I also provide therapy and counseling to the lesbian and gay populations of Dallas. This is either in an individual setting or in couples sessions. I help clients of these groups deal with issues relating to coming out, coping with and growing into middle age, developing healthy relationship and dating skills, and establishing and maintaining solid boundaries. For couples, I assist in opening up lines of communication and helping to turn around the toxic habits that have developed.

Finally, I specialize in helping individuals deal with Asperger's Disorder. Many individuals who are now young adults went through their childhoods without being diagnosed, but have since been diagnosed as adults. I provide therapy to help these individuals develop strong relationships with others.
