Denny Sanford pledged $44 million in charitable donations in 2008, including donating $30 million to the San Diego Consortium for Regenerative Medicine, which was rebranded the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine in his honor. The chairman and CEO of the Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based United National Corporation was named to BusinessWeek's 2008 list of the 50 Top American Givers, which recognizes the most generous U.S. philanthropists.
